I have been photographing weddings at Van Dyk for many years and over that time I have seen seen some dramatic changes all of which have made it one of Derbyshire’s best wedding venues.

The hotel site has recently had a complete refurbishment, extended to include stunning modern accommodation, a luxurious restaurant, bespoke wedding gardens, it really is the ideal choice for couples aspiring to have their perfect wedding day.
With the two sides of the venue offering a very different feel there is something for everyone and so many opportunities for beautiful wedding photographs. The original manor house has lots of traditional features and a grand ballroom whilst the newly build side has a light bright and modern feel… both stunning in their own right.
Van Dyk offers a choice of private rooms for wedding breakfasts, fully-licensed civil ceremonies and evening wedding receptions, a fantastic honeymoon suite and has plenty of luxury accommodation for your guests.

There are so many locations for beautiful wedding photography you really are spoilt for choice. The garden on the new side is walled with lots of lovely little features and a central ornate tunnel which makes for such a romantic setting.
Just outside the walled gardens are lanes and fields which make the perfect backdrop for a romantic wander as you let it all sink in. No awkward or cheesy posing, just natural photographs of you both with those natural ‘‘we did it!’’ smiles!
As an experienced Chesterfield wedding photographer I get to photograph at many wonderful venues and the Van Dyk hotel is one of the very best, as soon as you see it set back from the road the many design features, from the fountain to the seasonal displays round the main entrance just grab your attention and all make amazing backdrops for your wedding photographs.

Whether you are getting married in the gran ballroom on the manor house side, the indoor ceremony room on the new hotel side our outside in the garden I capture every moment with beautiful light and detail
During the ceremony the lighting in the two ceremony rooms can be very challenging for photographers, the manor house side with its lack of windows and natural light and the new side with floor to ceiling class creating a backlight effect. It’s important to choose a wedding photographer who is experienced and has the right equipment to deliver beautifully lit pictures of the most important part of your day.
The lighting I use is discreet and flattering, my aim is for your family and friends to remain focussed on you… no one wants to have camera flashes in their face throughout the ceremony as it’s distracting and creates harsh unflattering images.

When you get married at Van Dyks you get either the large gardens on the manor house side or the enclosed garden on the new hotel side for your private enjoyment. Both are beautiful, full of colour and perfectly maintained for daytime photographs and the twinkle lights come out as the sun sets.
You can then relax, enjoy the food and catchup with all your guests. The whole team at Van Dyk go out of their way to ensure everything goes perfectly, from your amazing wedding co-ordinator to the bar staff and kitchen team nothing is ever too much trouble.

Getting Ready for your Wedding Day at Van Dyk Hotel
The rooms at Van Dyk are just what you you would expect from a four start hotel and great for the morning preparations before your big day. Standard rooms have lovely big windows for light and airy photographs whilst the Minnie Suite and Bridal Suite both have all the space, mirrors and flattering lighting you could ever need.
It always really nice to have everyone getting ready together on site, lots of laughs, fun pictures and no excuse for turning up to say ‘‘I do!’’ late haha!

What if it rains on my Van Dyk by Wildes Wedding Day?
If you hire a great wedding photographer for your Van Dyk wedding then there’s absolutely no need to worry about a dodgy weather forecast. If you are planning a late autumn or winter wedding the chances increase a little but a rainy windy wedding day becomes an opportunity to create some truly beautiful and unique wedding photographs.
So, if you do pull back the curtains on your big day to find it’s raining cats and dogs don’t stress!
The creative off camera flash comes out along with the strobes and an umbrella or two and between us we will create beautiful and dramatic ‘wow’ shots of the two of you both inside and outside of the venue.
I set up all the required lighting without you and then fire some test shots of myself that way you are outdoors for as little time as possible, I just walk you into the shot, take it and then you can get back to the party!
Importantly I also bring along lots of additional lighting for indoor group shots when the forecast looks wet.
The great thing about Van Dyk is there are so many options indoors for gorgeous candid photographs, whether its in the new ceremony room, the ballroom or even the chapel with its ornate wood panelling, using my professional lighting setup its possible to take beautiful flattering indoor formal group photographs.
